Princess Maja's Pets
Josy (8), a Jack-Russell/wire-haired dachshund hybrid, a true ‘Berlin snout’. Amazingly enough cat Pauli is very fond of dogs. When she was seriously looking for a playmate it happened that she met Josy, was instantly attracted and ran square to him. Both got along well from the start and grew up together.
Josy is a very smart dog which understands everything and loves to travel. Hence, she accompanies Princess Maja quite often, if familiar with many hotels and airplanes, and even has been invited to several TV shows.
In June 2013 Josy’s photo graces the charity calendar ‘Celebrity Dogs’! She simply charms everyone with her gorgeous ears and big eyes, and is one of the top models for the current collection of animal princes & princesses.
Lord Rupert (13) is a male King Charles Spaniel. In summer of 2012 Princess Maja von Hohenzollern discovered him completely dirty, desolate and reduced to a skeleton in an abandoned house in the mountains of Spain, along with two other congeners. All three had been abandoned by their owner and were fed only sporadically by neighbors who lived far away.
Princess Maja was quite shocked how a dog owner could be that cruel to consign these three gramps to their fate. Especially Rupert was in a very poor state of health. Due to his age he had heart problems, needed a dental operation and a lot of care.
Princess Maja made short work and committed all three to a pet hospital: Meanwhile she fondly takes care of them. Rupert clearly has recovered and enjoys his new life with Mistress Maja, who cooks for him, pampers him with hot water bottles and lovingly cares for him – it’s just her way. His ‘English roots’ undoubtedly are putting through since he insists to formally sit at the breakfast table and being served with a piece of toast with jam. That’s why Princess Maja calls him ‘Lord Rupert’.
Leo (4) is an Ibizan Podenco Hybrid with beautiful amber eyes. Princess Maja discovered him abandoned in a parking lot in front of a shopping center in Spain in September 2012. Leo is extremely sensitive and affectionate and hovers over his white knight. He is very grateful and proves it to her with unconditional love and loyalty.
Leo is smooth and quiet. He likes cats, rabbits and hamsters and behaves very social in dealing with other dogs. No wonder that he made a career from stray dog to top model in a jiffy and became the star of the current collection, created by H.R.H. Princess Maja von Hohenzollern & TRIXIE.
Charly (7) is a handsome Cocker Spaniel. While walking her dogs in the outback of Spain in 2011 Princess Maja spotted him by chance. Charly suffered from ulcerated eyes and inflamed ears; his fur was matted and dirty, and he was covered with ticks and burrs.
Princess Maja took him home, applied first aid, fed and bathed him. He has since lived with Princess Maja and has recovered well, the inflammation and wounds are healed. Unfortunately, he also suffers from leishmaniasis, a disease caused by protozoan parasites; but Princess Maja takes also care of that and arranges regular treatments. Charly is very affectionate, loving and gentle, he loves cats and gets along with all other animals. He is very happy having finally found a loving home and now is a happy dog.
Pauli (8) is actually called ‘Pauline’, a beautiful black cat. Princess Maja found her (only ten days old then) when she crossed a dark road in a Spanish mountain village some time ago. The little kitten was more dead than alive and apparently had lied there already for several days.
Princess Maja found no trace of her mother or any siblings, therefore she took the small, almost lifeless kitten home and fought desperately for her survival during the next weeks. To keep her warm she wore little Pauli close to her body for weeks, even when running errands or shopping at the supermarket; she also took her on necessary travels all over Europe.
Pauli was really very sick, and it was a long journey full of hope and fear until she finally felt better and recovered. Pauli never forgot what Princess Maja had done for her and loves her dearly. She meanwhile came to be a real travel cat that likes to drive in a car and accompanied Princess Maja on several trips.
She is very smart, cuddly and gracefully beautiful. Princess Maja promotes particularly black cats in the areas of Southern and Eastern Europe since precisely black cats are often abandoned and hardly never adopted there because of the fur color.
